When We Feel Like It

Oftentimes we push things to a later date. We use lines like “oh I’ll just do it later/ tomorrow” or “I’ll do something nice for someone when I feel like it” When things are not a high priority we make excuses. However, we don’t know if there is going to be a later or a tomorrow for us. As humans, we have the gift of making decisions where we have to deal with the consequences, whether they are good or bad. If we were to do things when “we felt like it” then things would never get done and life would be bliss. But, if we are being realistic, we have to do things when we don’t feel like doing them.

The other day, my friend had been feeling sick and of course me being me, I offered my services. I told them if they needed anything to just call me and I would bring it to them. I wanted to help in any way I could. The initial day we talked, I was ready and willing to help. A few days later, as I was resting and reading-- I got a call. It was from my friend, who had been feeling sick. They asked if I could bring them something. It was the middle of the day, I had just finished cleaning my apartment and my car. I was tired. It had been a long week and all I wanted to do was rest for a little while. It would have been easier for me to say no, but I thought back to when I made the commitment and those feelings that I had then. I followed through with the commitment I made. I was running around town picking up what was requested. I say this to say, the day that I made the commitment to help my friend, I was all in and had tunnel vision to help the person get better but as soon as a couple of days went by, I was second guessing it because of how I was feeling.

I want to ask you this; Who are you when you have tunnel vision and you are not under pressure? Time reveals your level of commitment and discipline and brings out your true character. We are always enthused about starting something but as time goes on, we begin to become stagnant. This will force us to tap into our discipline and consistency. I want to encourage you to continue manifesting your ideas, and if you become stagnant, remember why you started in the first place. God is a God of cycles, he will keep testing you until you learn from your mistakes. If you were to only do things when you felt like it, how successful would you be?
